Radio silence

I haven't finished anything since last post. I frogged those jealoux socks. Started shawwoltail shawl which is very nice pattern to knit.

We desiced to do with bunch of friends a blanket for our friend who had some difficulties that time. You can find the whole story on Tui's blog: http://tuinkutomo.blogspot.com/2009/09/vaikeuksien-kautta-voittoon-from-fail.html

I did a few squares for this. I would have wanted do more but I didn't have time to do that so... But here are my squares:

There is also one more square which was bigger than those. Then I wanted also do my own blanked with that pattern. And when Novita published new yarn named Puro which is kind of copy of Noro I started to make it. Puro and Noro means almous same in finnish. :D Noro is just smaller than Puro but both are basicly rivers. Really small rivers tho.

At work

I didn't turn out so great.. I didn't have with me the right size hook so I think it is done too big hook. It looks ok but if I do it like this I should buy some hundreds skeins.

Oh now I remember. I did finish something. Firs sock of spiral boot socks are finished. I hope that I finish the other one in few weeks.

PS. Tell me should I keep posting in english or finnish. :)

Knitting in series

It tend to do knitting in series. Last December I knitted amigurumi toys. Now I have moved to knee socks! Okay.. I'm knitting also a Swallowtail Shawl. I who usually don't knit useful things like socks... I haven't knitted pair of socks since I was school and there I knitted only one pair. So those with Fabel are my first pair of since. I'm quite proud!

Sukkulat
First ones was from Fabel. This yarn is so nice to knit and so comfy. They turned nice and elegant although I used multicolor yarn.

  • Yarn: Drops Fabel
  • Pattern: Own
  • Needles: 2,5 mm
  • in Ravelry

Knee socks
Second pair is made of Sisu. They are pretty but not so comfy. They didn't turn out so well than first ones.

  • Yarn: SandessGarn Sisu
  • Pattern: Own
  • Needles: 2,5 mm
  • in Ravelry

Jaloux
Third ones were Jaloux sock by Tikru from Moda. The pattern is pretty but I didn't quite manage to knit these right so I frogged them for many reasons. I regret that decision but I'm going to start again soon.

  • Pattern: Jaloux socks from Mari "tikru" Muinonen from Moda 3/2009
  • Yarn: Katia Laine Nylon
  • Needles: 4 mm
  • in Ravelry

Spiral Boot Sock
Fourth ones are Spiral Boot Socks by Veronik Avery. I love this pattern! It is so nice to knit and easy but still they look complicated! These are going to be psychedelic and hysteric socks. :D Oh, I can't wait I can use these in summer.

  • Pattern: Spiral Boot Socks by Veronik Avery from Interweave Knits 2007
  • Yarn: Regia Design Line Kaffe Fasset
  • Needles: 2,5 mm
  • in Ravelry

Visiting new yarn store in Helsinki

I read from Ravelry that there was new yarn store in Helsinki and it was huge! It name was LankaMaailma Nordia and it was located to Oulunkylä and more spesific in Ogelin ostari. So I deciced to visit there.

The truth was that the store was big but half of it was full of clothes and not yarn. So I can't say it is biggest yarn store in Helsinki. I think Menita is maybe bigger or at least has more yarn brands.

LankaMaailma Nordia

There was a lot yarn in bags. They were in bargain if you want to buy whole kilogram of same yarn.

For Tui's and some other's delight there was a lot of "kissalanka". I don't know what the brand is but the label has cat on it. :D

Squidlicious!

A couple of weeks ago I stayed hospital one week. Before going there I needed desperatly something to knit. Then I remembered Hansi Singh and her fabolous hansigurumi creatures! I ordered four patterns: squid-a-licious, fibbler crab, anglerfish and cuttlefish. So I chose the colors for squid-a-licious and started to knit. I didn't even remember how fun it is to knit. And Hansi's patterns are like you solved crossword. I don't mean that they are hard to read or anything, but you finish the parts quickly and you can feel that you did something! Every piece needs own kind of techniques so you won't be bored knitting them. I recommend them to everyone!

Some photos of Squid's adventures.

Let's mambo!

Novita has improved their Mambo yarn, or so I have been told. I fell love with their new color, violet, instantly when I saw it. It is just my color. So I bought it and 8 double pointed needles.

Mambo hat

pattern: Rounded hat (own, details in Ravelry)
yarn: Novita Mambo
Needles: 8 mm

I did also something that was completely new to me. I bought Kool-aid's and dyed some yarn.

Hand dyed Hand dyed

Yarns was originally blue as you can see and then I dyed the other end with grape and other end with strawberry. I like the result but don't really know what to do with this yarn. I have it 22 grams and it is originally lace weight but this is double of it. Again it is some vintage yarn and I don't know what fibers it has or what brand it is or anything.
